November 2008

I'm sorry it has taken me so long to update the newsletter.   Ian's Rainbow Flu Foundation has had a busy fall.  We held our second annual Ian's Rainbow Flu Foundation's Walking to Fight the Flu on October 18th.  It was an incredible event with over 300 walkers.  The Urgency Room held a flu clinic at the walk and we had over 175 people get vaccinated.  What a great day!  We have also helped to organize several other flu clinics within our community.  I want to thank all of you who have helped make these events so successful.

According to the CDC's most recent flu map, fifteen states are already reporting sporadic outbreaks of the flu.  It seems as if this time of year I am always holding my breath and praying for a mild flu season.  I hope with the CDC's new recommendation that ALL children between the age of 6 months and 18 years old get vaccinated that we see a decrease in the severity of the upcoming flu seasons.  Also, remember that washing your hands is another way to help prevent the spread of the flu.

The holidays are quickly approaching and we all need to take time to remember all of the things in life that we are thankful for.  Please don't take these things for granted.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Please remember that nobody knows your child better than you do.  Follow your instincts!!

Stay happy and healthy,

Julie Moise
